Driving Electric Vehicle EV BYD E6 2021

Driving an EV? Collecting an EV? Are you suitable for an EV?

As the Singaporean market moves towards cleaner air, the government has encouraged drivers to switch to EVs. However, driving an EV in Singapore is hassle-free for some, but not for others. Here are some common questions that new EV drivers might have:

How long can you drive on a single charge?

For a BYD E6 2021, you can expect to drive around 400km to 500km per charge, depending on factors such as your driving style and the weight of your cargo.

How long does it take to charge an EV?

The time it takes to charge your EV depends on the type of charger you use and its location. Charging costs range from $0.50/kWh to $0.20/kWh, so a full charge for a 70kWh battery will cost around $14++. Home-based or commercial power sources are generally cheaper than other providers such as Shell Recharge.

Are there any free charging stations available in Singapore?

Yes! You can charge your EV for free at IKEA, Marina Bay Sands, and Tampines Hub.

What happens when I take my EV on a road trip to Malaysia?

Bring along a 16amp 3kW charger or stay in places that allow you to charge overnight. Plan your route carefully, and take advantage of high-power chargers during your lunch breaks.

How much does it cost to install a charging point at home?

There are many brands available, and prices range from $500 to $4000. Cheaper chargers are not LNO approved, which means that if a fire is caused by the charger, insurance will not cover it. However, having a charging point installed is a more convenient and cost-effective option than using public charging stations.

Are all EV charging ports the same?

No. Singapore uses the Type 2 plug as the standard, but some older EVs may use the J1772 plug, which requires an adaptor to use our Type 2 charger.
